ABOUT OUR NAME

Norma J. Jewell Conery

July 25, 1933 – March 29, 2014

Norma was a lifelong resident of Ashland and was very proud to call it her home. She was a dedicated mother, who led by example, being responsible, honest and hard working. She started her career in business as an executive assistant to Dr. Hess of Hess & Clark. She later used her skills to become the co-founder of Conery Mfg. in Ashland, Ohio. It was her driving force that was instrumental in the company’s success. Though she believed in work, she also enjoyed taking time for family vacations at Lakeside on Lake Erie. However, “Toots” as her father called her, may be most remembered as the woman riding her beloved lawn mower and mowing all the way to the age of 80! Norma faithfully took her children to Christ United Methodist Church in their younger years and later in life participated in Saturday evening services at Trinity Lutheran Church.

God gave her a warm heart for animals. Over the years she gave countless hours, supplies and money to assist in the aid of abused & abandoned animals. She received numerous awards from the Ashland County Humane Society recognizing her unwavering generosity. She also made it possible for the Ashland Co. Sheriff’s Office to acquire several K-9 dogs that continue to protect our community. The Norma + June Foundation has been established as a means to honor Norma and continue her heart’s desire of donating to community needs.

Norma was born in Wooster, Ohio to Melvin & Ethel (Wolbaugh) and passed away at age 80. She is survived by four children: Linda Brinker, Lori Henthorn, Scott Conery, Tami Norris and 33 grand & great grand children.
